Have you had a look at your competitor’s website lately? How does it compare to yours?
75% of consumers admit to making judgements on a company’s credibility based on the company’s website design.
A study done by Google shows that it takes people 50 milliseconds to form an opinion about your website. People are constantly bombarded with information, they need to make snap judgements on what they want to spend their time looking at.
“According to Google, 61% of users are unlikely to return to a site if they had trouble accessing it and 40% visit a competitor’s site instead”
The better the first impression of a website, the longer the user would stay on the web page. A poor website interface is associated with a user’s immediate rejection and mistrust of the website – these users will never click past the home page. Website first impressions are 94% design related, with a measly 6% being about the actual content. Your website could be boasting the best service and great prices, but if users aren’t impressed in the first 50 milliseconds they will be exiting out.
Factors that signal your website needs a redesign
1) Website looks outdated
If consumers have multiple choices amongst competitors and you, it hurts your business if those competitors have more impressive websites. Consumers are more likely to bring their business to a company that has a simplistic modern website. The website look and interface also reassures consumers that the company is growing and on top of latest trends and technologies.
2) Website is not responsive or does not provide seamless mobile experience
“ Mobile traffic has a share of total global online traffic in 2017 is 54.64%”
Picture this: A woman is on the bus on her way home, she searches “plumbers near me” on her phone and starts looking through the search results, she is not going to waste time on websites that aren’t optimized for mobile use. All those businesses she exited out of instantly lost a potential paying customer.
If your website is not optimized to be viewed from various devices, thats a large chunk of business you are losing out on that you might not even be realizing. Users expect a website to be as easy to navigate on mobile as it is from a laptop, if the website isn’t providing a good experience, potential customers will turn to competitors.
3) Website has bad user experience and is hard to navigate
Have you recently checked how easy it would be for users to navigate through your website? A business website should clearly show the services being offered, the location of the business, and contact information. A common mistake many businesses make is burying information under too many webpages. For a new customer, if they don’t immediately see what they were looking for, they will visit your competitor instead. Another major component of user experience is dependent on the speed of your website. You are losing customers if videos, links, pictures are loading slow.
“40% of people abandon a website that takes more than 3 seconds to load.”
4) Website has features that don’t work properly
A website could be appealing, but does everything work as they are suppose to? The most common mistake is having broken links. This happens when the website link is changed but all the places that contained the old link were not changed or set to redirect to the new link. This creates user frustration and causes them to easily exit your webpage. Consumers want to save time and effort, your website should help them do that.
You may be deterred from upgrading or making a website because of the costs associated with it but many are losing out on more money during this waiting period then actually getting it done.
